EMMA MCBRIDE MP
SHADOW ASSISTANT MINISTER FOR MENTAL HEALTH
SHADOW ASSISTANT MINISTER FOR CARERS
FEDERAL MEMBER FOR DOBELL
THE DEADLINE IS HERE, BUT HEADSPACE WYONG IS NOT
After two long years of waiting for headspace Wyong, the Government’s deadline has finally arrived but unfortunately for Coasties, the new headspace has not.
The Government promised to put $1.5 million towards a headspace at Wyong on the eve of the 2019 election, saying it would be delivered by 2021/22.
Then, in Senate Estimates on 27 October, we were told headspace Wyong was scheduled to be open in December 2021.
Federal Member for Dobell, Emma McBride says it’s now December, but there’s still no news about an opening date.
“Coasties have waited long enough for headspace Wyong, but all this Government seems to do is make empty promises without delivering,” she said.
“Our community desperately needs more mental health support services, especially after they year they’ve had.”
After spending months in lockdown due to the COVID-19 outbreak, demand for mental health support on the Coast surged to record levels.
“Young Coasties were crying out for help as they struggled with changes to online learning, ahead of their HSC,” Ms. McBride said.
“A service like Headspace Wyong could have helped them, but it still hasn’t opened because of this Government’s inaction.
“We need a headspace at Wyong now, this is urgent.”
