PROTECTING COASTIES FROM HEARTLESS SCAMMERS

People on the Central Coast of NSW are being overwhelmed by scam callers, and the Government is sitting on its hands.

After spending months in lockdown due to the COVID-19 outbreak earlier this year, Coasties were inundated with scammers while they were stuck at home.

In a community where one in five people are aged over 65, this is concerning.

Scammers are heartlessly exploiting the most vulnerable people on the Central Coast.

The Government has done nothing to try and stop these scammers and the harm they’re doing to pensioners, small businesses, and Australian families.

Labor has a plan to tackle scammers.

An Albanese-Labor Government will establish a National Anti-Scam Centre, bringing together police, consumer groups, banks, telcos, and regulators to stop phone and online scammers.

We will also double the funding for victim support groups, focused on recovering stolen IDs.

And, we will task a minister with direct portfolio responsibility for fighting scams online.

For Labor, tackling online fraud and scam callers is a priority.

For some reason, the Government doesn’t seem to agree.
