McBride & Speaker bring Parliament to Gorokan Public School
On Friday, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Milton Dick MP, visited Gorokan Public School and spoke with students about the work of the parliament and Australian democracy.
The Speaker was invited to visit Gorokan Public School by Member for Dobell, Emma McBride MP.
The visit marked the first time a Speaker of the House of Representatives has visited the Central Coast bringing parliament to classrooms.
Stage 3 filled the school hall where the Speaker spoke about his significant role overseeing parliament, and Ms McBride spoke about her dual roles as local MP and an Assistant Health Minister.
Replicating the operations of Parliament, students held a Question Time and a Parliamentary Vote where they had to divide to opposite sides of the room.
The question – ‘should pineapple be allowed on pizza?’
The results were overwhelming opposed to pineapple on pizza.
Gorokan Public School is the 141st school the Speaker has visited since assuming the role in mid-2022 as part of his effort to grow civics education for students across the country.
