MORRISON GOVERNMENT REFUSES TO STOP PEP-11
The Morrison Government has turned its back on people across the Coast, after refusing to debate the STOP PEP-11 bill in Parliament today.
In April this year, the Prime Minister declared he was against PEP-11.
Then today, his government voted against a Private Members Bill to halt this risky project once and for all.
Just like their position on net zero emissions by 2050, this government says one thing and does another.
Member for Dobell, Emma McBride says Coasties have made it clear that they’re against PEP-11.
“This is a project that would devastate our coastline, our marine life, and our local economy,” Ms. McBride said.
“It would put our reputation as a tourist destination at risk and threaten tens of thousands of local jobs.
“Over 1800 people across the Coast have signed my petition, calling on the government to stop PEP-11 and thousands of others up and down the coast have signed similar petitions.”
Ms. McBride says the Resources Minister is already 8 months over the deadline for PEP-11, and he needs to make a decision now.
“The Minister can put an end to this project with the stroke of a pen, today,” she said.
“That’s why I stood up in Question Time today and asked him whether he would finally end the uncertainty for our community.
“This government needs to step up and do the right thing by Coasties. It’s gone on for too long.”
