QUESTION MARKS OVER THE FUTURE OF LONG JETTY HOSPITAL

The future of Long Jetty Hospital is now in doubt, after Central Coast Local Health District announced plans to turn it into a COVID response unit from mid-next month.

Overnight, staff members were told the Long Jetty Sub-acute and Transitional Care Unit had been identified as an ‘appropriate space to support the [regions] ongoing COVID response.’

As a result, all patients are set to vacate Long Jetty on 19 October and those who are not ready for discharge will be sent to Woy Woy or Wyong Hospital.

“I’ve been contacted by concerned staff members overnight who are very worried about the future of Long Jetty Hospital,” Federal Member for Dobell, Emma McBride said.

“They’re concerned that the hospital won’t reopen once it’s been repurposed as a COVID response unit and will instead be shut down, permanently.

“This is an important healthcare service in our community, and we deserve an explanation."

State Member for The Entrance, David Mehan has taken this up directly with the CCLHD this morning and is seeking a public statement about the future of our hospital.

“We need to know how this plan will affect existing staff and patients now, and into the future,” he said.

“We also want a guarantee from Central Coast Health that they will not close Long Jetty Hospital after they finish using it as a COVID unit.

“This is urgent.”
