FIRST WEEK OF PARLIAMENT
The Albanese Government has been sworn in to the 47th Parliament of Australia and we have wasted no time in delivering some of our key election commitments.
During the first week of Parliament, we tabled several pieces of legislation to address aged care, family and domestic violence, the Cashless Debit Card and climate change.
Australia’s aged care sector is in crisis and the Albanese Government is taking action to change this.
Our Royal Commission Response Bill and Implementing Care Reform Bill will help many older Australians, including the one in five people aged over 65 years living on the Central Coast.
These Bills will address 19 recommendations from the Aged Care Royal Commission, put nurses back into nursing homes, and improve accountability and transparency.
The Government has also moved to introduce ten days of paid leave for people fleeing domestic and family violence.
One Australian woman dies every ten days at the hands of their partner.
No one should have to choose between their job and their own health and safety.
We introduced legislation to abolish the harmful Cashless Debit Card, which was worrying to many local people, especially those relying on the aged pension to get by.
And, we moved to introduce our Climate Bill which will enshrine our emissions reduction target of 43 per cent by 2030 into law.
It marks the start of our renewable future and is an opportunity to end the climate wars.
This is what we have achieved in our first week of Parliament, and we have no plans to slow down.
