Member for Dobell, Emma McBride, has confirmed her support for a community campaign to stop the introduction of user-pays parking at Wyong Hospital.
Speaking in the House of Representatives yesterday, Ms McBride said: “I will keep campaigning to oppose the introduction of parking fees at Wyong Hospital.”
A 10,000-signature petition will be tabled in the NSW Legislative Assembly this afternoon and Ms McBride said her speech was to support the community’s efforts.
“Those signatures will mean the NSW Health Minister has to answer the people of the Coast,” she said. “They will be listening closely.
“We have now gathered another 5000 signatures and community members are still adding their names to the petition.
“At Gosford Hospital the NSW Government has entered a five-year lease with Secure which will earn profits of $1.9 million from the health workers and patients of the Coast.
“Wyong Hospital has never charged for parking. It has limited public transport which forces staff, patients and visitors to drive.
“At Gosford Hospital staff are now paying over $1200 a year and visitors $19.90 per day or $6.70 an hour. This is more than John Hunter Hospital and Gosford Private.
“I absolutely oppose parking fees at Wyong Hospital. I call upon the NSW Liberal Government to reverse this decision and ensure free parking at Wyong Hospital,” she said.
