The introduction of parking fees at Wyong Hospital is a disgrace and proof the Liberals do not care about the Central Coast community, according to the Federal Member for Dobell, Ms Emma McBride MP.

This election is a choice between a united Shorten Labor Government, which will reverse the Liberals’ cuts to hospitals, or more of the Liberals’ cuts and chaos.

"Wyong hospital has never charged for parking," said Ms McBride, who worked at the hospital as a pharmacist for 10 years before standing for parliament.

"The State Member for Wyong, David Harris, has called the introduction of parking fees a ‘Sick Tax’ and I agree with my Labor colleague’s description," she said.

"Workers at Gosford Hospital are now being forced to pay up to $1,230 a year for parking.

"Patients and visitors are paying $20 a day, or $6.70 an hour. Similar parking fees are planned for Wyong Hospital before the end of this year and our community simply cannot afford it.

"The Liberals tried to privatise Wyong Hospital and only backed down after the community fought back and stopped them.

"The Federal Liberal Government walked away from its 50:50 funding deal with the states. That is why hospital patients, visitors and workers are now being asked to stump up for parking.

"I do not believe the sick and their families should have to pay commercial parking rates to access essential health care at our local hospital.

"I call upon the Liberal candidate for Dobell to stand up to Gladys Berejiklian and the New South Wales Liberal Government and support our community on this issue.

"I stood with this community to fight the hospital’s privatisation and I will not stop until the Liberals reverse their plans to introduce parking fees," Ms McBride said.

We need real change, because more of the same isn’t good enough.
