Problems with the NDIS continue to be one of the main reasons why people contact my office for help.
Their problems are heart breaking and frustrating and due to the failure of the government to properly fund and resource the NDIS.
People are waiting too long for plans, for essential equipment and access to support services.
Toni, for example, lives with Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome which places her at severe risk of falls. Pushing her manual wheelchair left her in pain, so she could only leave her house with a care worker.
With my help a planner finally met Toni at home and approved her electric wheelchair BUT it had taken 2 years.
Toni also received approval for a wheelchair ramp , which she needed in the garage for her own safety. The problem was the NDIS would not approve an automatic roller door. Toni was grateful for the ramp but did not have the strength to lift her roller door. The saga continues.
Scott Morrison has said he will fix the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) and we will hold him to it.
