Taking action on robo debt

October 15, 2019

Have you received a debt from Centrelink? If so, there’s a strong chance it may not be accurate.

Over 100,000 debt notices issued under the Liberal’s robodebt program have already been challenged.

Of the debt notices issued, the Minister, Stuart Robert, has admitted the error rate is one in five and each time someone attempts to take it to court the government gives a last-minute reprieve.

To tell us about your debt, go to yourrobodebtstory.org.au so we can hold the government to account and stop other people like you from being unfairly targeted.

The information you provide will not be shared publicly unless you give consent. If you provide contact details someone may call you to find out more and offer help where possible.

Margaret of Bateau Bay called my office recently seeking help with a robodebt Centrelink had sent to her daughter.

“The debt relates to 2011-12 and we have provided information to Centrelink, attended the Centrelink office and rang the call centre in our quest to try and resolve the matter,” Margaret said.

“The debt including interest was deducted unfairly from her 2019 tax refund,” she said.

My office is assisting Margaret to try to get to the bottom of this matter. If you have a similar story please share it.
