Labor pushedfor a wage subsidy weeks before the Morrison Government was prepared to consider such a move.
We allowed JobKeeper to pass the parliament but have highlighted shortcomings.
All casual employees should have been included.
Parliament gave Treasurer Josh Frydenberg extraordinary powers to make changes to JobKeeper. Labor will continue to urge him to use those powers to expand JobKeeper to include casuals, state employees including nurses and teachers and local government employees.
Finally, JobKeeper will end on 27 September; this may lead to a second wave of job losses. I’m hopeful the government will be flexible when the time comes.
