Service organisations and community groups in the electorate of Dobell are invited to apply to the Federal Government for volunteer grants of between $1,000 and $5,000.
Any community-based volunteer group that works in the local community can apply, including progress associations, scouting groups, sports clubs, community clubs, wildlife carers, bands and music clubs, and more.
The grants are available to help not-for-profit community organisations or groups support their volunteers through practical measures such as the purchase of small equipment items, reimbursement for volunteers’ fuel and transport costs, and contributions towards the cost of training and background screening checks.
“Volunteers are the backbone of our community, and it is important we support them to do their work,” Ms McBride said.
“These grants are designed to make volunteering easier, safer and more enjoyable and to support, encourage and increase participation in volunteering.
“I would urge all community groups to apply,” Ms McBride said.
Applications for the grants close on September 18, 2018.
