COST OF LIVING IS THE BIGGEST ISSUE ON THE COAST
All eyes will be on Canberra this week to see what’s in the Liberal Government’s 2019 budget but the single biggest issue for Central Coast households is keeping up with the cost of living.
Federal Member for Dobell, Emma McBride, said she hoped to see a Budget that took care of the most vulnerable in our society rather than a Budget that’s sole purpose was to buy votes for the Liberal Government.
“I know the escalating cost of living is the main concern of many in our community,” Ms McBride said.
“Real wages have stopped growing under this Government and many households are suffering as a consequence,” she said.
“I have visited six food pantries in the electorate of Dobell in the last 12 months run by small local community organisations and that’s in addition to the food hamper services run by the larger charities.
“I believe this is unprecedented and indicates just how tough many people are doing it at the moment.”
Casualisation of the workforce, the loss of penalty rates and wage stagnation have combined to push many working families into poverty, according to Emma.
“If this Liberal Government was serious about creating a fairer and more prosperous Australia for all, it would deliver tax relief to those who really need it rather than to our most wealthy,” she said.
“Let’s see if this Liberal Government can produce a Budget with measures that will help the needy and restore funding to local schools and hospitals.”
