As children start the 2019 school year, Member for Dobell Emma McBride has asked families to think about what an extra $43.72 million spent on the Coast’s public schools will mean for our kids and families.

“A Shorten Labor Government will invest an extra $43.72 million in the Coast’s public schools over the three years from 2020,” Emma McBride said. “It is part of Labor’s plan to deliver the biggest investment in public schools in Australia’s history,” she said.

“In the electorate of Dobell an additional $20.73 million will be shared by 34 public schools during the three years from 2020 to ensure our children have more individual attention and more help with reading, writing science and maths.”

“Across Australia Labor will deliver an extra $14 billion for public school over the next decade, with $3.3 billion extra flowing in the first three years. A fair go for our schools will allow public schools to offer a broader range of subjects including languages, coding, the arts, and vocational education and will support our outstanding teachers to continue to update their skills.

“We will give all children the opportunity to reach their full potential no matter where they live.

The Liberals have capped federal funding for public schools at only 20 per cent of the cost of educating a child so almost nine in 10 public schools will never get to their fair funding level.

“Labor wants every public school to get 100 per cent of its fair funding level, and we will work with the states and territories to achieve this,” Ms McBride said.
