Wyong Hospital saved from privatisation

July 17, 2017

Our community has been heard, and Wyong Hospital will remain in public hands.

This announcement puts an end to months of uncertainty and concern for health workers and patients.

Wyong Hospital has always been our community Hospital. It was built after decades of activism and fundraising from the community.

It was not, is not, and will never be the Government’s to sell.

I thank David Harris, Member for Wyong, and his colleagues for leading the campaign against this privatisation in the NSW Parliament. This is a great achievement by Members that genuinely care for our community.

This is a victory for the union movement – the Health Services Union, The NSW Nurses and Midwives Association, Unions NSW and many, many affiliates – who always put the needs of the members, and the communities they serve, first.

As someone who spent most of their career working at Wyong Hospital, my greatest thanks go to the health workers of the Central Coast who work tirelessly, every day, to care for those in need. They deserve a Government that understands the value of public healthcare and appreciates all they do.
